A Weapon-Free Zone
By their vote at the January 31, 2016 congregation meeting, the members of United Christian Church of Austin have declared that the church building should be a weapon-free zone, extending the longtime policy of the children's department to the entire church facility.
While we recognize that the world is a complex place and that there are a diversity of viewpoints among our members on the broader issues of gun control, we believe the church where we worship the Prince of Peace should be entirely free from weapons of any kind. This means that both openly carried and concealed handguns are legally banned from the church building. Anyone found to be carrying will be asked to remove the weapon from the premises or face removal by law enforcement. In addition, we ask parents and others to help us teach our children that the church is not a place to play with toy or pretend weapons, either. Together we hope to work toward making the world a less violent and more loving place over all. |
