Past Faith Formation Programs & Resources

We believe that being a Christian is a lifelong process of becoming a Christian, so we offer opportunities on Sundays and during the week to continue our formation as disciples following in the way of Jesus.

"Allegiance to Empire:
Practices of Kingdom Citizenship"

Christ calls us to be in the world, but not of the world, to live here and now--for us, in these United States--as citizens of God's kingdom or kin-dom. But how do we negotiate these divided loyalties, particularly in a time of conflicting values? This seven-part discussion series--each part paired with a thoughtful video by The Work of the People, a new progressive Christian media workshop--will take up these thorny questions in light of the demands of the Gospel on our lives as individuals and communities.

2/11 "Citizenship as Resistance"
2/18  "Citizenship as Hospitality"

Theologian, Walter Brueggemann, speaks about replacing the authentic gospel with the gospel of “Western white entitlement.” This exchange has compromised the witness of the North American church by communicating a sense of “exceptionalism,” that “we are God’s chosen people in the world.” Instead of breaking ethical, social, and national barriers (Gal. 3:28), this builds walls between North America and the rest of the world. Brueggemann shows how to break the cycle of exceptionalism and return to a culture of hospitality.
2/25  "Citizenship as Love for Land" - Called to Hope
3/4  "Citizenship as Justice Work" -  Doing the Gospel
3/11  "Citizenship as Cruciformity" - The Cruciform Way of the Lamb
3/18  "Citizenship as Relating to Other" - Restoration of Relationship
3/25  "Citizenship as the Image of God" - Witnessing Through Baptized Eyes

During the season of Lent, we're setting aside our recent Wednesday night schedule to give us more time to be together in spiritual devotion and prayer. So each Wednesday, we'll gather for a brown bag supper @ 6pm and then share a thought-provoking message and worship from 6:30-7:30pm. Childcare is provided.

Our devotions will come in the form of videos recorded by some wise and inspiring speakers and shared over the internet. Youtube isn't just for cat videos anymore! It's amazing how the Spirit moves in unexpected places, even online. Our teachers will include:

2/14   Social researcher Brené Brown, on the power of vulnerability for whole-hearted living
2/21  Novelist Chimamanda Adichie, on the danger of listening to only a single story
2/28   Pope Francis, on the need for hope and solidarity
3/7  Social media activist Theo E.J. Wilson, on the subversive power of empathy
3/14   "Momastery" Blogger Glennon Doyle Melton, on facing into life's pai
3/21   Prophet of justice Rev. Dr. William Barber, on the tradition of moral dissent
