Once again, UCCAustin will have a table at Austin Pride so we can share the love of God for all God's fabulous children. Yes, it's August in Texas so, yes, it's hot as blazes, but it's a great good time and a wonderful way to put our love to work in the world.
Once again, Grace, our 5-foot tall metal rooster mascot, will be with us. This year, going with our theme of "Pride Equals Power," Grace will be dressed as a superhero, and we'll invite festival-goers to don their own mask and cape for pictures. And everyone will get to take a mask home with them, too!
We need volunteers to help set up, staff, and take down the booth. (Please make sure to bring sunscreen!) Click here to sign up to help.
Our Open & Affirming Ministry
Outside almost every church in the world, there's a sign that says, "All Are Welcome." Only, along the way, some of us find out that sign doesn't include us, particularly if we are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.
By contrast, an Open and Affirming (ONA) congregation in the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a church who has taken a public stand for the full inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons in the life of the church and society.
United Christian Church of Austin passed our first Open and Affirming statement back in 2007, and in 2012 we amended that statement to include gender identity and gender expression. What does that mean? LGBT folks are fully integrated into our life at United Christian, in our pews, volunteer leadership, and professional staff. To read the entire statement, click here.
