"God at Geraldine's Kurl Up and Dye": A Labor Day Weekend Worship Experience

This Sunday, September 5, at our 9:30 and 10:45 worship services, you will not want to miss "God at Geraldine's Kurl Up and Dye."

This skit may change your mind about God.  (Who is She?  What does She look like?  What if she cut your hair?)   It may change your mind about your work.   (Does your work make you happy?  What might God think about your work? Does your work contribute to the good of the world?)

To prepare for this Labor Day Worship experience, you may want to read Jeremiah 18:1-11.  You can read that online at: http://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/texts.php?id=278.

-------

Our 8:30 worship service on September 5 will be more contemplative time of thinking about labor and labor Day.   We will look at Frederick Beuchner's writing about "Vocation" from his book Listening to Your Life.

-------

Join us for worship September5, at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:45.

Why Jazz Music at a Worship Service?
On the last Sunday of every month a jazz ensemble gives a different tone to our 10:30 service.  Why do we have jazz worship Sundays?

1) The musicians are excellent and worship demands excellence.

2) Austin is the “Live Music Capital of the World," full of talented musicians so we connect our faith to our locale.

3) Jazz is about improvisation and reminds us as Christians to make sure our faith fits the world we live in.  We should always be improvising new ways to live in the world.

4) It also reminds us that Christians should never become complacent with the world as it is.  The world says, “War;” our faith says, “Peace.”  The world says, “Lock out;” Christianity says, “Welcome in.” The world says, “Hate;” we say, “Love.”

5) Finally jazz is about a group of players – a group of individuals playing their unique ways, but playing together.  That’s what church is.  You with your talents and me with mine, putting them together to form the church, the body of Christ in the world
